Creating Untitled Cat Game
This project was initially conceptualized during a 1 hour game jam, the theme of the jam was "Secret Cat". The initial idea was a sandbox game where you played as a house cat, quickly avoiding its owner and attempting to cause some chaos by knocking over delicate household objects from shelves and tables.
With less than an hour to work on this idea, the scope was adapted so that the basic concept could be communicated through the prototype. The AI owner was put aside and the basic movement system of the cat and its destructive capabilities were the primary focus.
By the end of the hour the players movement system was finished focusing on varied jump heights based on how long the player prepared the jump, so that the cat could reach higher ledges and surfaces. Alongside this was a base system for knocking over Objects in the world.
I've recently been putting some extra time into this project, improving the animation of the jump meter and developing a small test level utilizing some free-use assets. I want to return to this project soon to create a demo showcasing the intended game loop.
